Weekly Herald statement

We are always sensitive to rates and their impact on family finances. Striking a
balance between necessary expenses and low rates can be challenging. Here are
some ways we cut costs. I initiated or support them all.

o Restructure/refinance existing capital debt
o Regularly re-evaluate & re-prioritize new capital projects
o Extend depreciation schedules for operations equipment
o Negotiated favorable, long-term water supply contract with Everett
o Negotiated effective, long-term contracts with several cities who purchase wholesale water from AWWD

Our efforts pay off. A recent study showed AWWD rates – both water and sewer
– to be slightly lower than the average rates when compared to nine other utilities
in our region. This is quite an achievement considering Alderwood is the largest,
most complex district in Washington State.

I am not a politician but I am committed to responsible, effective stewardship of
ratepayer resources. For more please see: www.electlarey.org. Thank you.
